The legendary Douk Douk has arrived at Biutiful! This mythical knife has been manufactured by the Cognet cutlery firm in Thiers, France, since 1929. Recognizable with its Douk Douk – a spirit incarnation in the Melanesian culture – engraved on its handle. Gaspard Cognet found the design in an illustrated dictionary, the knife being originally intended for sales to France’s colonies in Oceania. In the long run, it was widely spread in Algeria then the rest of Africa, and went down in history. It’s even available in several versions such as Tiki and El Baraka. These days, the Douk Douk knife is still made in the same way, and with the same savoir-faire, as it was in 1929. A mythical object.
