Cire Trudon is the oldest and most prestigious wax-producer worldwide. And it's French!
In 1643, Claude Trudon is a merchant settling in Paris, rue Saint-Honoré. In his grocery, he sells candles in particular. And at the beginning of Louis XIV's reign, Trudon found his first manufacture.
His heirs will then join the royal court of Versailles as "distiller apothecary of queen Marie-Thérèse". Under Louis XV, Trudon supplies the Frnech court and the most important churches, and will do so until the very end of monarchy. The Maison Trudon will remain Napoleon's chandler under the Empire, and will even survive the arrival of electricity. It will continue its work of traditional candle making, and then scented candles.
